BEHIND THE CONTRAZOOM

A contrazoom (or dolly zoom, or “Hitchcock shot” as it’s sometimes called) is a technique that involves zooming the camera in while the camera moves backward, or vice versa. When we do it in stop motion it’s extra fun because we have such precise control over every degree of movement.  When it came time to execute this shot, we attached a 360 time lapse camera to the motion control rig to capture a bit of BTS magic:
